Tim Campos

Tim served as the CIO of Facebook for over 6 years. During his tenure at Facebook, he helped double employee productivity by building innovative enterprise software for Facebook business functions, and via exceptional operations for the entire company. Prior to Facebook, Tim served for 7 years as the CIO of KLA-Tencor, a leading supplier of semiconductor equipment and services.

Tim started his career as a software engineer at Sybase and built products at Silicon Graphics (SGI) and an Internet startup (Portera). He has more than 25 years of industry experience, focused on large scale distributed systems and enterprise software. He serves on the board of Rackspace, Viavi Solutions and Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley. Tim is an active member of several CIO organizations and a board member of the Hispanic IT Leadership Council. He also leverages his experience as an investor and advisor to several Silicon Valley startups.

Tim is an active member of our community. At Facebook, he created the company's program to donate laptops and computer equipment to under-resourced school systems in the Bay Area and around the country. He has also been a long advocate for YearUp, an organization focused on reducing the opportunity divide for underprivileged youth. He helped Facebook become the second largest sponsor of YearUp interns in the Bay Area, supporting over 140 young adults to find new opportunities in high tech. Tim also serves on the board for the Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose.

Tim holds a BSc in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science and an MBA from UC Berkeley as well as an MBA from Columbia University. He lives in Los Altos with his wife Shannon, their two kids Brianna and Andrew and their four-legged children Jasmine and Copper.

Burc Arpat

Burc worked at Facebook for 4+ years as a Sr. Software Engineering Manager. During his tenure, he helped the creation of the Audience Insights product, founded the Topic Data team and led several engineering teams in Menlo Park and NYC, building software for sales, marketing and advertisers.

Prior to Facebook, Burc spent 3 years at Google’s Search Infrastructure group where he was a Staff Software Engineer. He founded the capacity planning system still used today to manage Google's worldwide fleet of search servers, originally devised for Google Instant (Search as You Type).

Before Google, Burc was a software engineer and later an engineering manager (4+ years) at a software startup that got acquired (Earth Decision).

Burc holds a PhD from Stanford University focused on computational spatial statistics, an MBA from UC Berkeley (where he met Tim), an MSc from METU in Cognitive Science, another MSc from METU focused on application of convolutional neural networks to earth sciences and an engineering BSc, also from METU. He has been working on artificial neural networks since late 1990s and he is known to jump on all opportunities to talk about those good (!) old days. Burc is also an inventor on several patents related to ML, NLP and analytics.

When not writing code, Burc enjoys playing with LEGO sets together with his daughter Mischka and driving his wife Anoushka crazy by leaving all those LEGO bricks on the floor.
